The European Union Ambassador to Georgia emphasized the importance of free and fair parliamentary elections in Georgia, stating that they are crucial for the country’s progress on the European integration path.
“From the perspective of the European Union, it is very essential that these elections are conducted in a free and fair way. It is not only about the elections themselves, the date of elections, but the whole electoral campaign.
The election monitoring will be absolutely essential. We are waiting for the Georgian government to invite the long-term observation of OSCE/ODIHR”, - said Pawel Herczynski.
He expressed the EU’s support for reliable civil organizations involved in voter education and election monitoring.
“The EU actively supports initiatives to ensure that the electoral process meets high standards. Free and fair elections is one of nine steps that has been identified by the European Commission and agreed by 27 member states”, - added the Ambassador.
