Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Ministry of Transport of Ireland and the Road Safety Authority of Ireland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the exchange of driving licences.

The Memorandum of Understanding is in effect from 25th of June 2024, meaning the holders of a valid driving licence issued by Georgia or Ireland can exchange equivalent driving licence in the state of their normal residence without undertaking theoretical or practical exams.

The memorandum defines the categories/subcategories of vehicles driving licenses are issued for, which are the subject of the exchange, namely, the exchange of licences issued to drive AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, C1, C, D1, D1E, D, DE, CE and C1E categories/subcategories will be possible without passing theoretical or practical exams.

As per the information available on the official website of the Road Safety Authority of Ireland, Georgia has already been added to the list of recognized states for the purposes of exchanging driving licences by Ireland ( https://www.rsa.ie/services/licensed-drivers/driving-licence/exchange-foreign-licence ). It should be noted that according to the information posted on the website, the citizens of states recognized by Ireland, including Georgia, who have normal residence in Ireland (at least 185 days in each year) can exchange their driving licences via online application or in person at the National Driving License Service).
