From September 1 to October 15, we received over 250 reports concerning various interventions in the Georgian election campaign - Papuashvili

In the period from September 1 to October 15, we received over 250 reports concerning various interventions in the Georgian election campaign. Such a statement made today the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

“The documents, including the European Parliament resolution and statements from 13 ministers or deputy ministers, can only be traced back to InterPressNews outlet and are absent from any official webpages of foreign embassies.

We have no explanation for the origin of these statements, nor can we understand why there are specifically 13 of them - a number often associated with bad luck. However, the intent is clear: to influence voter sentiment.

An instance of intervention was the meeting scheduled for October 20, a joint event organized by NGOs and opposition parties, held under opaque conditions. We are unable to ascertain the source of the financing for this event, whether it came from local NGOs or foreign entities, but we are certainly skeptical.

The EU Ambassador’s remarks concerning the event raise a reasonable suspicion that it was funded by foreign resources, which would constitute a contribution to the election campaign and a violation of regulations.

These interventions in election campaigns are deeply troubling”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
