Law enforcement officers had detained 1 person for an assault on police officers during a public protest organised in Tbilisi by the opposition against the results of the October 26 elections.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the offender had physically assaulted law enforcement officers mobilised to maintain public order on the Melikishvili Avenue during the protest with a stick, inflicting bodily harm.
The crime is punishable by up to 7 years of imprisonment.
Police dispersed the rally early on Tuesday, November 19, citing violations of assembly laws, and removed demonstrators’ tents.
