The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset is already in Tbilisi. He is accompanied by the Director General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law, and the Director General for Democracy and Human Dignity.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, within the framework of the visit, Alain Berset will meet with the Prime Minister of Georgia, the Chairman of the Parliament, the President-elect and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The agenda includes a visit by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to the area adjacent to the occupation line. Alain Berset’s official visit to Georgia will last until December 21.
This mission takes place in a political and social context marked by strong tensions, extreme polarization of the political debate and acts of violence in recent weeks. The aim of the visit is to ensure the conditions for continued co-operation between the Council of Europe and Georgia, in full compliance with the Organization’s values and principles.
