The Legal Issues Committee established the working group for determining compliance of Supreme Court judicial candidates with the legal requirements

The Legal Issues Committee established a working group to facilitate the determination of the compliance of Davit Mamiseishvili, a candidate for the position of judge of the Supreme Court, nominated by the High Council of Justice to the Parliament for election, with the requirements of the legislation of Georgia.

As explained by Archil Gorduladze, Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, the Committee Secretariat sent relevant letters to all factions and political groups inviting them to nominate candidates to serve on the working group.

The "Georgian Dream" faction nominated six members to the working group: Archil Gorduladze, Rati Ionatamishvili, Davit Matikashvili, Tornike Cheishvili, Akaki Aladashvili and Tengiz Sharmanashvili. The "European Socialists" political group nominated one member, Nika Elisashvili, while the "People`s Power" political group also nominated one member, Guram Macharashvili.

The working group also includes Moris Shalikashvili, Dean of the Faculty of Law of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Associate Professor, and Otar Chakhunashvili, Director of the Legal Aid Service. As Archil Gorduladze noted, the "For Georgia" faction will not have a representative on the working group.

"The term of the working group shall be defined as the period until the Legal Issues Committee makes a decision concerning the candidate for the position of judge of the Supreme Court. At the same time, information concerning the candidate nominated by the High Council of Justice has been sent to each member of the Committee. Within the timeframe prescribed by law, but no earlier than 14 days, the Committee will hear the candidate for the position of judge of the Supreme Court", - said Archil Gorduladze.
