Employees of the Imereti Forestry Service of the National Forestry Agency have revealed the fact of illegal logging of up to 5 cubic meters of chestnut timber, a species protected by the “Red List”, in the state forest of Kharagauli Municipality. The illegally harvested timber has been transported to the “business yard” of Zestaponi.
“Chestnut is a species protected by the “Red List”. The case contains signs of a criminal offense. The materials have been sent to the relevant agency for further response.
Significant damage to the environment has been caused, the calculation of which is underway”, - said Kakha Tsertsvadze, Head of the National Forestry Agency.
