Weather to worsen in Georgia - forecasters warn the population

The National Environmental Agency [NEA] forecasts rain in most regions of Georgia on March 19-20, with snow possible in high mountainous areas, and potentially heavy in some places.

According to the meteorologists, coastal areas may experience strong winds and 4-5 point storms at sea.

In mountainous regions, melting of snow due to high air temperatures accompanied by intense rainfall may cause significant water level rises in rivers, subsequent flooding, overflow from riverbeds in certain sections, and flooding of adjacent territories. In small rivers of Eastern Georgia, this could trigger flash floods.

Avalanches may form in the high mountainous regions, while landslide and mudflow processes may develop or intensify in hilly and mountainous zones [high threat level], according to information from the NEA.
