Research work is starting on 21,000 hectares in Gurjaani Municipality to create new protected areas in Kakheti, in Gurjaani Municipality.

Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Agency for Protected Areas discussed the issue at the meeting. The importance of protected areas for improving the ecological situation and developing ecotourism in the region was noted.

It was also underlined that protected areas provide the local population with the opportunity to receive additional economic benefits.
