Local government will financially assist those affected by the fire at Borjomi Railway Station market area in Tbilisi

Local government will financially assist those affected by the fire at Borjomi Railway Station market area in Tbilisi. Such a statement made today the Mayor of the capital.

"Last week, a fire broke out at one of the marketplaces near Station Square, affecting approximately 400 people. Tbilisi City Hall responded immediately, initiating direct communication with the affected traders, led by Vice Mayor Irakli Khmaladze.

Multiple meetings were held, and within the scope of our authority, we pledged comprehensive support to those impacted. We allocated necessary funds from the reserve foundation and signed a contract with the Tbilisi Municipal Inspection’s contractor company. The above company has already started demolition work at the site. In parallel, we engaged with the company operating in the area, which leases spaces to the affected traders.

This company has committed to fully restoring the site once our contractor company completes clearing operations. Additionally, the Municipality is developing an aid package to provide a certain financial assistance to those affected. We also had communication with both the Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank. I would like to personally thank them for their support and solidarity with these families, as both banks expressed readiness to offer grace periods to those affected who have financial obligations", - said Kakha Kaladze.
