The Annual Diaspora Forum has become a cherished tradition for us. It is always a great joy to meet our compatriots from across the globe during this event. No matter where our diaspora resides - whether in Europe, America, or Asia - their bond with their homeland remains unbroken. Wherever we may be, our hearts beat for Georgia. Our homeland, its land, and its people will always hold a special place in our memory, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia said in his address at the forum dedicated to Diaspora Day.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, Georgian communities abroad have consistently served as a bridge between Georgia and their host countries, playing a significant role in promoting the country’s culture, traditions, faith, and values, as well as advocating for Georgia`s national interests.

"In today`s climate, marked by rising disinformation and false narratives, the role of our diaspora becomes even more vital. The success of our compatriots abroad in business, arts, and education enhances Georgia`s international image. Often, they serve as the people`s envoys and narrators of our history. As Speaker of Parliament and as a citizen of Georgia, I am proud of your accomplishments.

As we continue building a strong, democratic, peaceful, and successful Georgia, your contribution to this shared mission is becoming increasingly significant. We understand that the success of Georgians abroad is directly linked to the success of our homeland. Therefore, our political team places great emphasis on maintaining strong ties with the diaspora and establishing a legal framework that better protects your rights", - said the Speaker.

He noted that many programmes and initiatives support diaspora-led projects, foster cultural and educational exchanges, and strengthen ties with young Georgians living abroad.

"We firmly believe that every Georgian, regardless of place of residence, should have the opportunity to contribute to the progress of our country. Preserving national identity among our compatriots abroad is essential for empowering Georgian communities worldwide. While many initiatives are already underway in this direction, I would like to highlight the Foreign Ministry`s competition `Georgian Calligraphy`. Today`s forum is held alongside an exhibition of outstanding works by Sunday school students who took part in the contest.

Georgian script and calligraphy are visual expressions of our history, culture, and values. I thank you for your excellent participation and for preserving such a strong connection with our native language. I also extend my deep gratitude to Sunday school teachers, who - despite being far from the homeland - devote great effort to instill love for all things Georgian in our young citizens.

Our embassies and consulates play a key role in fostering relations with the diaspora, protecting their rights, and promoting Georgian culture and traditions abroad. Today, in recognition of outstanding service to the Georgian diaspora in Germany, Consul General of Georgia in Frankfurt am Main, Mr. Giorgi Tabatadze, will be awarded. Mr. Tabatadze, congratulations and thank you for your dedicated work", - said Shalva Papuashvili.

He concluded by emphasising that Georgia`s future lies in the hands of the Georgian people: “We are ready to continue the dialogue and cooperation with our diaspora and work together for Georgia`s bright, peaceful, and successful future. I thank each of you for your valuable contribution to our nation. I wish you every success".

The forum dedicated to Diaspora Day was attended by President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili, members of the legislative and executive branches, and representatives of the Georgian Church.
