The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia [PoG] charged a foreign citizen with illegal purchase, storage and preparation of selling of a narcotic substance in particularly large quantity.

An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs [MIA] established that the accused illegally purchased and stored a narcotic substance of Methadone (base) in particularly large quantity, part of which he located for sale in Maghlaki village of Tskaltubo Municipality. The said narcotic substances were seized during the conducted investigation activities.

Law enforcement officers detained the accused on June 14. He was charged under Articles 260 (part 3, sub-clause “a”) (illegal purchase and storage of a narcotic substance in a particularly large quantity) and (part 6, sub-clause “a”) (preparation of illegal selling of a narcotic substance in a particularly large quantity) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages the imprisonment for up to 20 years or a life sentence.

Arrest was imposed on the accused by the court as a measure of restraint based on the motion of the PoG.
