Giorgi Gabunia, Chairman of the Culture Committee, attended the opening of the archaeological expedition with the objective of conducting an in-depth study of the palace dating back to the IX-XII centuries. This discovery was made on the premises of the Rustavi fortress.

The expedition is organized by the Culture Ministry and Rustavi City Hall, with up to 100 archaeologists and volunteers participating.

MP Irakli Shatakishvili; member of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Alexander Dalakishvili; Rustavi Mayor, Nino Latsabidze; the Head of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia, Tea Oniani; the members of the expedition and the scientists also attended the opening ceremony.

The historical Rustavi fortress has undergone several modifications throughout its existence. Initially, based on historical sources, Rustavi emerged as a city in the 4th century BC. The National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation envisions a comprehensive examination of the archaeological significance of the palace and castle, with the objective of coordinating its preservation and restoration efforts.
