Shalva Papuashvili met with the Speaker of the UK House of Commons

Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, met with Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the UK House of Commons. As Shalva Papuashvili noted, relations between Georgia and the United Kingdom do not reflect the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries. He stressed the importance of open and constructive dialogue.

Shalva Papuashvili expressed his gratitude for the United Kingdom`s steadfast support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and its policy of non-recognition of the occupied regions.

The sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries. The importance of restoring the Wardrop Strategic Dialogue was emphasised. Attention was also paid to the further development of parliamentary ties.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged information on the negative impact of foreign influence on the process of political decision-making.

Speaker Lindsay Hoyle noted the importance of dialogue between Georgia and the United Kingdom and expressed hope that relations would improve. Shalva Papuashvili briefed his counterpart on the activities of the Parliament of Georgia and outlined its current priorities. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly, taking place in Arusha, Tanzania.

Alongside the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, and Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, are participating in the event.
