The US State Department`s statement on the importance of free media is shared by the Parliament Speaker.
Irakli Kobakhidze said the government will do everything to maintain media pluralism and media freedom.
"We will do our best to ensure that in the conditions of any scenario of development of events, media pluralism and freedom of the media will be ensured in Georgia. You remember what the situation in 2012 was in this regard. All three national TV channels were controlled by the ruling party, and today we have a radically different situation. This is our achievement. Media pluralism did not exist in Georgia and was established during our leadership, "- said the Chairman of the Parliament.
Parliamentary minority believe that the ruling team is interested in closing down Rustavi2.
The UNM again warns the government that silencing the independent media may have a negative impact on Euro-Atlantic integration.
"Rustavi 2"s case is not a legal dispute of two sides, it is the government`s attempt to suppress free speech, and the clear messages from the United States and the European Union on this question are a warning to the government that manipulations with Rustavi 2 may cost very expensive not just the government or Ivanishvili, but the country, "- said Zurab Chiaberashvili.
