"The United States remains committed to the independence and pluralism of the media in Georgia" - Thomas Melia

The deputy head of the US Agency for International Development, Thomas Melia spoke about Rustavi 2 and freedom of media .

American diplomat said the US administration strongly supports the independence of media and with respect to pluralism of the media Rustavi2 is the main element .

"The US government strongly supports media independence and pluralism in Georgia  as in other countries around the world. Our positions are clear and  Ambassador Kelly has expressed it. Pluralism is, I think, the key element that is affected by this ongoing controversy about Rustavi2. Our views are well known on that and we look forward to continuing to see a vibrant and diverse media in Georgia. It has been one of the strengths of  Georgia. Regardless of which government   is in power there have  always existed critical points of view that were able to be expressed  in print, online and on air. We hope and expect that this will continue, "- said Thomas Melia.

Deputy Head of the US Agency for International Development of Democracy, Thomas Melia was Deputy of the State Secretary in Human Rights .
