Slander and insult may become criminal offenses

Legal Initiative of the National Academy of Sciences has been registered in the Parliament which requires criminal punishment for slander and insult.

As the author of legislative proposals, Shota Papiashvili, indicates the necessity of punishing for both acts is defined and well-founded in the first issue of the magazine "Lawyer" .

The initiative, which is directly related to the restriction of freedom of speech and expression, belongs to Shota Papiashvili , whose daughter, Lali Fafiashvili,is a Constitutional Court judge. Lali Phaphiashvili is a member of the Court plenum that should consider Rustavi 2`s constitutional claims.
