"We hope the Georgian government will respect the principle of media freedom ," - EPP leader about "Rustavi-2" case

Rustavi 2 and the free media were the main topics of conversation at the meeting of the UNM members with the leader of the European People"s Party faction.

Manfred Weber made a statement regarding the developments aroundthe broadcasting company. Weber says that Georgia must respect the rules, and one of the main rules is the existence of free media.

According to him, the European People"s Party is closely following developments around Rustavi2 and the trial process.

"The EU has sent a very important signal to the Georgians. We have introduced a visa-free regime, which was a sign that we want partnership, and we want to work together and eventually have Georgia in the European family. On the other hand, Georgia must respect the rules of democracy and one of the most important rule is free media and respect for media freedom.

"Therefore, the investigation and trial are very critical issues. We will be watching it and we hope the government will respect the principle of freedom of media," - said the European People`s Party faction leader, Manfred Weber
