The bishop of Evangelical Baptist Church, Malkhaz Songhulashvili has made a statement on Rustavi 2 case. Tbileli Metropolitan human rights calls on the leader of the ruling party to protect human rights.
"When we say that the diverse and critical media in Georgia is under threat, it means that it is a threat to fundamental human rights. Not only to one right or two, but to all of them.
"We all know that on March 2, the Supreme Court"s Grand Chamber, without oral hearing unanimously rendered a final decision against Rustavi 2 TV. The decision angered all, clergy and laity.
"Maybe somebody does not like Rustavi 2, but we all need to understand that pressuring Rustavi 2 or any other critical media outlets in Georgia violates rights of each person..
"I will be proud, if the government performs its obligation and vikews Rustavi 2 from the party and politcal but from the state perspective. I will be proud if those politicians who have been criticized by Rustavi2 express their support to this independent broadcaster .
"I would be proud if the country`s President and Prime minister, as well as Madam Minister of Justice( just like the first lady) would go to Rustavi2 station t express their support. This is such a time, when all should put aside their partisan loyalties, and of political preferences. Today, we all should stand on the guard of human rights, "- said the Bishop.
