US Ambassador to Georgia, Ian Kelly, responded to possible transfer of a controlling package of shares to Rustavi2 staff today. Ian Kelly undelined that it is important to preserve the independence of the broadcasting company`s editorial policy.
"We have repeatedly stressed that media pluralism is important that everyone should have the right of expression regardless of whether it is critical or not. That is why we expressed our concern about the existence of pluralism in Georgia. I do not know the details of the offer regarding the shares, but I think that the principal has not changed - Georgia remains the country where the legitimate political forces and opposition have access to an on-air. It is therefore important that the Rustavi-2 maintains its editorial policy, "- he said.
