What decision will be taken by the government regarding the reduction of the number of self-governing cities is still unclear at this stage. However, it is already known that discussions will be acute on this issue.

Besides the non-governmental sector, the positions of the Georgian Dream are not shared either by the majority of the population or the heads of the towns. According to the initiative of the ruling team, the status of self-governing city should be terminated for 7 cities.

There are 12 self-governing cities in Georgia. If the government`s initiative enters into force, they Mayors in Ozurgeti, Zugdidi, Ambrolauri, Akhaltsikhe, Gori, Mtskheta and Telavi will not longer be elected.
