The reason for the fire in Kobuleti hotel in 2015, which killed three children, has not been investigated yet, but one more tragedy has been added to it. Zaza Artmelidze, owner of the hotel, who was in prison for 5 months because of the incident, committed suicide. Artmelidze also explained in the letter that he was not guilty and he was not allowed to save children.
There are question marks in a series of Kobuleti tragedies - why the owner of the hotel was detained, why did he committed suicide and was anybody interested in getting the hotel`s territory?
Mamuka Akhvlediani, the former chairman of the City Court, responded to questions about the case and provided new scandalous details to the pprogram Post Scriptum. Zaza Artmelidze was his relative and Akhvlediani said that Artemidze was detained without evidence in 2015 to pressure him.
After detaining the owner of the hotel, David Mamisheishvili, the Chairman of Batumi City Court directly explained to the family what they wanted.
"We were told straight away, stop Akhvlediani, it was his text, it was a direct message to family members that they had to influence me so that I would stop and in this case the family would not have problems," said Mamuka Akhvlediani.
During this period Mamuka Akhvlediani challenged the High Council of Justice due to the processes in the court system.
Former chairperson of the City Court clarified that the Chairman of Batumi City Court
made a decision against Zaza Artmelidze at the order of the chairperson of the Court of Appeal Court Mikheil Chinchaladze and the judge Levan Murusidze.
On February 22, 2016 Mamuka Akhvlediani resigned from the post of the chairperson of the court. Shortly afterwards Zaza Artmeladze was released from prison.
Parents of children who died in Kobuleti did not manage to meet with the owner of the hotel and did not receive additional information. They express their distrust to the investigation and are demanding to start a new investigation.
It is not clear whether there is a commercial interest in the area of Kobuleti tourist zone. However, it is noteworthy that after the tragedy the bank did not take into consideration the fact of the fire factor and imposed a disproportionate fine for the owners. Owners were deprived of their property.
