The legislative package on drug policy liberalization is an exception where the amendments made by the management team have full support of the opposition, but the part of the Georgian Dream protests against the initiative. Following a noisy protest after a number of high-profile arrests, the government introduced new regulations to the legislature.

Despite the support of the bill, the opposition speaks about the reasons that forced the ruling team to include the issue in the agenda. According to the parliamentary minority, the ruling team tried to overshadow with a renewed discussion the scandalous detention of rappers last week.

According to the new legislative regulations, consumers, producers or distributors of dried marijuana in the amount up to 70 grams will no longer be subject to prison sentence and will be fined with 500 GEL. In case of larger amount, the prison sentence was decreased almost by half.
