Prime Minister`s special briefing - Kvirikashvili criticized opposition when talking about importance of constitutional amendments

The Prime Minister spoke about the main goals of the new constitution developed by the ruling team at the special briefing. Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted that the constitutional amendments will facilitate the distribution of functions between the governmental branches.

"Eradication of gaps, balancing of the constitution and switching to the model of full-fledged parliamentary governance was the aim of i our team for initiating changes . Amendments are balanced and responsibilities between the branches of the government are clearly shared, the Parliament acquires its natural role and weight, procedures for declaring mistrust of the government by the Parliament are simplified.The government becomes more efficient and more specific are the functions of the President as a neutral arbitrator, "- Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili criticized the opposition for trying to mobilize the NGO sector against constitutional changes. The prime minister noted that this attempt of political opponents is groundless and lacks arguments.

At the briefing held at the government"s administration Giorgi Kvirikashvili said that the amendments adopted by the majority were necessary and inevitable for the country`s democratic development. Kvirikashvili explained that the constitution adopted in 2010 included many shortcomings, the elimination of whichwas the goal of the majority.

The ruling team approved constitutional amendments with the first reading today. The discussion of the document will continue tomorrow.
