I expressed my willingness to continue working with Venice Commission and political dialogue - Prime Minister

Giorgi Kvirikashvili responds to the statements of politicians and civil society organizations regarding constitutional amendments.

The Prime Minister says that the constitutional amendments are an important step forward. According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the new Constitution of Georgia will be in full compliance with highly democratic standards in the world.

Kvirikashvili says that changes will increase the role of the parliament, balance of the distribution of forces, simplify the procedure of declaring mistrust to the government.

According to him, the ruling team has agreed on compromise in the process of making changes. Among them is a proportional electoral system that has to be enacted from 2024.

"We hear the accusations from the supporters of the constitution, which was approved in 2010, where all fundamental principles of democracy were violated, it was absolutely unacceptable. We had a meeting with the President of the Venice Commission, where we discussed this process. I expressed my willingness to continue our work with the Venice Commission until the third hearing and political dialogue.
I am convinced that our population appropriately assesses this and the opinion of the population of our country is absolutely objective to those processes that takes place ," Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
