24 NGOs address the US Vice President with open letter

24 NGOs operating in Georgia address the US Vice President with an open letter.


In the letter they thank the United States of America for supporting Georgia"s democracy and list major problems that threaten the existence of democratic institutions in the country.

The authors of the letter emphasize the external factors as well as the situation within the country. Adopting a constitutional amendments in a one-party regime, lack of independence of judiciary, impunity for law enforcement and security systems and media developments, including the developments in regard to Rustavi2 are listed in the letter.


According to the NGOs, the government is involved in a legal process on property issues against a large national media, which voices critical opinion.
