"If a citizen of Georgia remains in the EU for more than three months and asks for asylum, Georgia should return him" - Elmar Brok

"This is not a good development, if visa-free travel results in increase of the number of asylum-seekers, it is possible to launch the suspension mechanism, but I hope that this will not happen and this mechanism will not be started," - Elmar Brok, chairman of the European Parliament"s Foreign Relations Committee, said.

He said that the Georgian government should be very active in order to prevent the launching of the suspension mechanism.

"The Georgian government must be very active and work with the governments of Germany and European countries and do all that it can to prevent it. If a Georgian citizen remains in the EU for more than three months and asks for asylum, Georgia must return him back, "- Elmar Brok said.
