Bribery of voters during election procedure - third sector talks about violations revealed in elections

Non-governmental organizations consider the voter bribery during the electoral procedure as the most important violation. The civil sector hopes that the relevant agencies will respond to similar facts.

Among the main violations is the restriction of observer"s rights, violation of marking procedures, and voting with inappropriate documents.

NGOs focus on mobilizing coordinators on the outskirts of the precinct election districts and telephone calls recorded to citizens from the election headquarters.

Overall, up to 400 complaints have been filed in all DECs.

"The significant violation is related to the bribery of the voters, we have recorded 6 facts in different regions and we think that this is a criminal offense," Eka Gigauri, executive director of the NGO "Transparency International - Georgia" said.

The executive director of the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy, Mikheil Benidze says that the most problematic issue is mobilizing coordinators on the perimeter of the polling stations. .

Irma Pavliashvili, executive director of the Georgian Young Lawyers" Association, draws attention to the violations revealed during the elections. Pavliashvili declares that they will wait for the process of hearing the complaints.

The statement was made by the Chairman of the NGO "Georgian Democratic Initiative". Giorgi Mshvenieradze explains that the electoral process was conducted with significant shortcomings. According to him, it is necessary to respond to each violation in order to avoid such incidents during the next elections.
