We did not confront the society - Members of "Georgian Dream" speak about Draft Law on cultivation of cannabis

Assessments are made in the legislative body regarding the withdrawal of cannabis cultivation bill from the parliament. According to the MPs, the reason for the decision was the negative attitude of the public and the absence of a corresponding consensus.

Parliamentary majority MPs claim that the bill could bring economic benefits to the population, but in the pre-election period the corresponding communication with the electorate failed.

The ruling team believe that the main essence of the project is the production of cannabis medicines for medical purposes.

"There was a billion dollars revenue for the country, 20% of which would be included in the budget, 200 million or 300, that would be the subject of legislative discussions. I can not say what will happen after 200 years, but the fact is that the government does not intend to discuss this law and initiate it in Parliament, "said Akaki Zoidze, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Healthcare and Social Issues.

The parliamentary majority says that since the bill for the large part of the society and the church was unacceptable, "Georgian Dream" did not go against the population.

"We had our arguments why this project was introduced, but as we have seen, for a large part of the society and for the church it was unacceptable and I think we made the right decision not to go against our society," said the Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee, Sophie Kiladze.
