In order to defeat the epidemic in Georgia, it is necessary to vaccinate 60% of the adult population. Such a statement made today the Director-General of the Center for Disease Control and Public Health.
“With vaccination, we will need masks for a long time, keeping distance, frequent sanitation of the hands, and refusal to large gatherings will remain in force. None of the vaccines have been used in children under 18. There is one exception that has been used since the age of 16.
Only adults are vaccinated. Also, there are no clinical trials in pregnant women yet, so we refrain from vaccinating these two groups - children and pregnant women.
The adult population in Georgia is about 3.8 million, and 60% of it is about a 1 700 000. If we vaccinate this many people this year, we can say that we will defeat the epidemic in the country”, - said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
