We are facing a serious threat, the vaccination rate is very low - Tengiz Tsertsvadze

The COVID-19 vaccines uninterruptedly enter Georgia, but the vaccination rate is very low, said today the Head of Infectious Diseases and AIDS Centre.

According to Tengiz Tsertsvadze, a high skepticism in society stops mass vaccination. He also stressed that the rate of facemask-wear in public dwindled from 70 to 42%.

“Georgia has so far managed to have relatively better indicators. This refers to the stable number of cases, which is no more than 400 with certain exceptions recorded.

Besides, we have a very low death toll that has not exceeded 10 for a long time. But it can’t last long, we do not live in an isolated world, and we are in serious danger for several reasons.

There are 2 main factors - the first is that Georgia, even though the vaccine has been introduced and will continue to be introduced, has an unprecedented passive attitude towards the vaccine and the greatest skepticism. In fact, mass vaccination is not possible. The second factor is that people no longer follow the minimum regulations, especially when wearing a mask. 70% was the rate of wearing a mask. Now it has dropped to 42%, which is an alarming sign”, - said Tengiz Tsertsvadze.
