It was stated by the Prime Minister of Georgia at a meeting with conventional fishermen and fishing licensees today.

Irakli Garibashvili received first-hand information on the needs of fishermen and fishing licensees. According to him, refurbishment of the Georgian fishing fleet started during the governance of the Georgian Dream and it continues actively. Program assists the local fishermen in acquiring the modern fishing vessels of advanced standards. As of today, procurement of 13 vessels has been financed. With the referred investment, 222 jobs have been created and total investment has reached 47 586 472 GEL.

As noted by fishermen, it is the first time ever that the sector is getting such wide-scale support of the state in the history of independent Georgia.

In the opinion of the Prime Minister of Georgia, the state intends to facilitate the development of the fishing industry in future as well, as it is vital for Poti, region and country.

Fishermen expressed their gratitude to the Irakli Garibashvili for the supportive programs, thereby noting that full utilization of fishing quota was not possible with the existing vessels and Georgian licensees had to deploy ones rented from foreign countries.

Replenishment of the fishing fleet, along with the creation of new jobs, will facilitate the introduction of modern technologies in the sector, increase of the assortment and extension of sales coverage. Lending under the project scope has amounted 46.4 MLN GEL, while the volume of total investment exceeds 47.5 MLN GEL.
