The 18th institution is not ready to provide proper treatment to a patient in critical condition. Such a statement made Dr. Giorgi Grigolia, a member of multi-profile group of experts created by the Public Defender.
“We assessed the condition of Mikheil Saakashvili as critical. This condition is rated as critical because he has been on a hunger strike for 48 days.
Regarding the equipment of Gldani Prison Hospital, where the former president is currently placed, the facility is not poorly equipped, however, it is not ready to provide proper treatment to a patient in such a critical condition.
He needs intensive treatment. Since he does not intend to stop hunger, his condition is complicated on a daily basis. All the organs are damaged as a result of hunger. Therefore, the patient needs to receive treatment from multidisciplinary specialists, endocrinologists, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, etc. Unfortunately, this clinic does not provide their service permanently – they can be called, but they are not present on-site within 24 hours. Therefore, this is one of the factors that we considered, in such a situation the patient should not be in this institution”, - explained Giorgi Grgolia.
