Merab Kobiashvili, accused of murdering Tamaz Gortamashvili in Gudauri, was acquitted by a jury.

10 out of 12 jurors found Kobiashvili innocent in the part of premeditated murder.

2 judges found him guilty, which means a verdict of acquittal by a majority of votes.

“This is a great tragedy, which I have to carry as my burden all my life”, - said Kobiashvili, while commenting the decision of jury.

28-year-old Tamaz Gortamashvili was killed and another person was wounded in Gudauri on February 16, 2020. Merab Kobiashvili was detained by thepolice and was charged with murder, attempted murder and violence. At the same time, the Prosecutor’s Office charged 6 people with gang violence against Kobiashvili.
