We have submitted a new initiative to the parliamentary majority that we should change the taxation rate of gambling business. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

“We presented a new initiative to the parliamentary majority, which I now want to introduce to the public. We have to change the taxation rate of gambling business. Under the plan, gambling businesses will be taxed at a rate of 15% of profit, instead of the current 10%. And withdrawals from gambling businesses will be taxed at 5%, instead of the current 2%.

The mentioned changes will bring an additional 400 million GEL to the budget. 300 million from banks, 400 million from the gambling business - in total we will have an additional 700 million additional income in 2024.

Here, on the one hand, I would like to express my surprise and, on the other hand, my sadness, that the turnover of the gambling business is increasing. I"m really not happy about it, because too many citizens are still involved in this gambling business.

For information, in 2022, the total turnover of gambling business increased from 48 billion to 52 billion GEL, which is a catastrophic figure. So many people are still involved in this business.

You know that we made important changes last year when we banned advertising and limited our citizens to 25 years of age to participate in the gaming business. 1,500,000 citizens were automatically restricted from participating in the gambling business. Despite this, we see that too many citizens are involved.

Accordingly, we have made a decision to increase the taxes on this business and as we told you, an additional 400 million GEL will be received in 2024”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
