The national team, it can be said, took not only Georgian football, but the whole of Georgia to another level. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.
“I cannot help but respond with great gratitude and pride to the success of our national team at the European Championship and the beautiful, spectacular football that our debut team won the hearts of many football fans. There were wins and losses, but most importantly, the national team showed the impressive result that, a few months ago, a large part of the fans did not expect. The national team, it can be said, took not only Georgian football, but the whole of Georgia to another level; instilled self-belief, motivation and expectation of greater victories; It showed us once again that we have no less capabilities than anyone else and we are not behind any championship team.
A few days ago, I was in Italy, where I met my former colleagues. I am really proud of their attitude towards Georgia, Georgian football, and it was nice to hear the words they spoke about our boys. I am sure that all Georgian fans are proud of this achievement. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of our players for the hard work and dedication they have shown on the field. Thanks to the head coach Willy Sagnol, who did everything to make our team successful. I want also like to thank the entire coaching staff and technical staff.
Also, I would like to express special thanks to Levan Kobiashvili, who did everything, put his work and talent to make the national team at the height of its calling. Thanks to the vice-presidents of the Federation. This success and victory did not come by chance. The foundation for all this was laid in 2015, and all this time, work was going on to get the team to the European or World Championship. This is due to proper management. There were also difficult moments, even in the previous championship we had the opportunity to go to the tournament. Unfortunately, then we lost against Macedonia. Many people did not believe in our team, there was a lot of criticism, often even undeserved, but the most important thing is faith - we believed that we would succeed in this way and in this spirit”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
