European, Spanish flags at half-mast in front of European Parliament building in Brussels and Strasbourg as a tribute to the victims of floods in Spain

The European and Spanish flags at half-mast in front of the European Parliament building in Brussels and Strasbourg as a tribute to the victims of the floods in Valencia [Spain].

As it known, the European Union activated the emergency service of the Copernicus programme on October, 30, to monitor the area of south-eastern Spain affected by flooding, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, said on X. “The civil protection mechanism can be mobilised”, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, added.

At least 95 people are confirmed dead, with dozens missing due to heavy rains and flash floods Tuesday in eastern Spain, around Valencia and in Albacete and Cuenca. Intense rains have swept away entire villages, left tens of thousands stranded in their homes, cut power to 120,000 residents, and led to widespread road closures.
