Elon Musk-backed German party AfD registers resolution in European Parliament supporting the Georgian Dream

The European Parliament`s political group, Europe of Sovereign Nations, which includes the German party Alternative for Germany [AfD] - a party supported by Elon Musk - has registered a draft resolution in support of the Georgian Dream.

According to the document, “Georgia is a sovereign state under international law with full authority to determine its own political system, hold elections, and govern itself without interference from foreign entities or international organisations”.

The resolution highlights that “the parliamentary elections in Georgia held in October, 2024 were conducted in broad compliance with national and international legal standards, the Georgian people made a clear and democratic choice regarding the composition of their new Government”.

As the document reads, “Georgia’s new government remains committed to European integration while ensuring respect for national sovereignty and democratic processes”.

The authors of the resolution accuse the EU of interfering in Georgia’s internal affairs, arguing that the EU’s refusal to recognize the legitimacy of the elections and its support for opposition parties undermine the Union’s credibility and trust in the region”.

The draft resolution also condemns the EU’s refusal to recognise the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections in Georgia and its ongoing interference in the country’s domestic political affairs.
