Irakli Garibashvili, a Prime Minister of Georgia releases a statement on the recent developments regarding to Rustavi2.

" The recent developments in regard to Rustavi2 is ownership-related legal disputes between the owners of the company.  Of course, both sides use all available legal leverages for strengthening their positions.

The government"s obligation is to provide an environment, where independence of judiciary and freedom of media will be protected, because the development of our country depends on these two important democratic institutions.

We are building a democratic state, in such state the  private litigations, and especially decisions on these private litigations can not have a political background. W

We are building a state where freedom of the media is one of the most important values and no one has the right to speculate with  this issue.

Impartial judgment is a prerogative of an independent court. The process should be open to the public to get detailed information about the court decision.

The government, media, court and public - we all need to ensure  independence of media and judiciary,"- is stated in an announcement released by Irakli Garibashvili.
