Adjara police arrest citizens of Belarus and Ukraine on drug charges

As a result of complex investigative measures, officers of Khelvachauri District Department of the Adjara Police and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, arrested 2 persons: M.A., a Ukrainian citizen [DoB 1980], and K.H., a Belarusian citizen [DoB 2000]. They are charged with attempting to illegally purchase a large quantity of narcotic drugs as part of a group.

The committed crime envisions up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

The investigation established that the defendants were involved in a drug crime scheme.

In order to expose them, law enforcement officers, as part of the implemented operational measures, carried out an undercover delivery of a handbag sent to them from abroad to Georgia, after which M.A. and K.H. were arrested in Tbilisi as defendants. The police seized up to half a kilogram of the narcotic drug "Methadone" hidden in a helmet from the handbag as evidence, which the defendants intended to purchase. Herewith, a GPS device was found in the same handbag along with the narcotics.

The investigation continues under Article 19-260 of the Criminal Code [attempt by a group to illegally purchase a particularly large quantity of narcotics in advance coordination].
