Russian aviation violated Finnish airspace

Russian aviation has violated Finnish airspace. According to Finnish Border Guards the helicopter failed to respond to their radio calls.

The Border Guard suspects that that helicopter crossed the Finnish maritime border with Russia, illegally.

According to the Border Guard the helicopter flew over the area of Haapasaari in the eastern region of the Gulf of Finland on Thursday morning at around 10am local time. The aircraft was warned twice by the Finnish Air Force, after which the helicopter exited the territory of Finland.

Finnish media reports that the aircraft flew nine miles inside the Finnish border. The illegal border crossing event lasted over six minutes.

Russian military aircraft have routinely violated Finnish airspace over the past 24 months and provoked discussions about Finnish membership in NATO.The information about the invasion is spread by the Border Defence Agency.

Finnish authorities said that a Russian helicopter has intruded into in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland through the air space of 9 kilometers.

The Finnish Air Force pilots on the radio connection between the Russian tried to go out, but they did not respond. Russian military helicopter in Finnish airspace 6 minutes leave.

Moscow has yet to comment on the incident.
