Employees of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation into the facts of violations of the rules for the use of energy resources in Mestia Municipality and seized 148 units of the so-called cryptocurrency miners.

As a result of complex operational measures and investigative actions carried out by law enforcement officers, special cryptocurrency-producing devices, so-called miners, were discovered at 6 different locations on the territory of Mestia Municipality.

The investigation established that using the aforementioned devices, locals were systematically generating digital currency and receiving illegal income by illegally and unlawfully consuming large amounts of electricity.

As a result of the searches conducted by law enforcement officers, a large amount of special technical equipment was seized as evidence.

Active investigative actions continue regarding the fact, with the aim of identifying other persons involved in the crime. The investigation is being conducted under Subsection Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, envisioning the imprisonment for a term of up to 3 years.
