As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by employees of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, together with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service and in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, one person was detained on the fact of violation of the rules of movement of especially large quantity of goods across the customs border.
As a result of the investigation carried out on the basis of operative information, it was determined that a citizen of Georgia, through the Sarpi Customs Checkpoint, transported across the customs border 1,215.52 grams of gold jewelry concealed in various items by a motor vehicle under his control,. The customs value of the mentioned goods amounts to GEL 246 857.
The investigation is underway under Article 214, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
