Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office of Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti region carried out operative-searching and investigative activities resulting in the detaining of two individuals identified as V.G. and L.S. on facts of illegal entrepreneurial activity and legalization of illicit income.
Investigation determined that the accused systematically extracted inert materials from the Supsa River in Guria region without the relevant permission or license and sold them to various business entities. In total, 32,957 cubic meters of inert materials having value of GEL 380,804 were illegally extracted, while environmental damage amounted to GEL 494,345 GEL. Additionally, one of the accused legalized illicit income of GEL 45,713.
The investigation is underway under Article 192, Part 2(a) and Article 194, Part 2(g) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 9 years.
