Large-scale forest restoration project implemented across 18 hectares in Guria

Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency [NFA], personally reviewed a large-scale forest restoration project in the Guria region. The comprehensive project was implemented across an 18-hectare area within the Ozurgeti-Lanchkhuti forestry sector. Alongside measures to promote natural regeneration, nearly 15,000 seedlings were planted on the territory, including Red List-protected species such as Imeretian and chestnut-leaved oak, as well as maple and acacia.

The forest restoration and afforestation area was selected by the NFA based on a specialized study, which ecologically ensures the strengthening of regulatory ecosystem services in terms of soil protection.

The annual expansion of forest restoration measures is one of the core components of the forestry reform. We have a long-term forest restoration and afforestation plan, according to which the NFA will implement measures across approximately 2,600 hectares in 9 regions of the country in 2026. By 2036, forest restoration activities will be carried out over a total area of up to 51,000 hectares”, - said Besik Amiranashvili.
