A Chinese expert visiting Georgia within the framework of the FAO "One Country One Priority Product" initiative visited the Jighaura Research Base

Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, hosted Chinese expert Yaning Xia at the Jighaura base, who is visiting Georgia within the framework of the FAO global initiative "One Country One Priority Product" (OCOP).

Within the framework of OCOP, Georgia has selected wine as its priority agricultural product. The initiative aims to promote the sustainable development of products possessing cultural heritage, unique characteristics, and economic potential, thereby enhancing their competitiveness.

The meeting held at the Jighaura Research Base was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, FAO, and the National Wine Agency.

During the meeting, Levan Ujmajuridze provided the guests with an overview of the Scientific-Research Center’s ongoing activities in the field of viticulture and winemaking.

He placed particular emphasis on the importance of protecting, studying, and conserving Georgian grapevine genetic resources, as well as on local and international research initiatives focused on preserving agrobiodiversity and advancing agricultural science.

Within the framework of the visit, the delegation members toured the national ampelographic collection and the vine and wine museum space in Jighaura, where they explored the rich heritage and unique genetic resources of Georgian viticulture and winemaking. A tasting of wines produced from rare Georgian grape varieties was also held for the guests.
