Prime Minister of Georgia nominated Tamaz Borashvili as the new Head of the State Security Service. As Irakli Kobakhidze underlined, Borashvili’s career has been closely linked to the State Security Service.
“As you are aware, today the Head of the State Security Service, Mr. Geka Geladze, stepped down from his position. First of all, I would like to thank Geka Geladze for his service. He is an exceptionally conscientious individual and an outstanding professional. During his tenure as both the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Head of the State Security Service, he made a very significant contribution to ensuring state security and combating crime, including the fight against organized drug crime and corruption.
Mr. Geka Geladze will assume the position of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. With his knowledge and experience, he will significantly strengthen the team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. I once again thank Mr. Geka Geladze for his service and wish him success.
Today, we are presenting the candidacy of Mr. Tamaz Borashvili to the Parliament of Georgia for the position of the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia. Tamaz Borashvili has been serving in the law enforcement system for more than 20 years. Within the state security system, he began his career from the lowest position and achieved consistent career advancement across various levels within the Counterintelligence Department.
In 2017-22, Tamaz Borashvili held the positions of First Deputy Head of the General Inspection and Head of the General Inspection at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. In 2022, he returned to the State Security Service, where he held the positions of Head of the Tbilisi Main Division of the State Security Department and Director of the State Security Department. This year, he was appointed as the Deputy Head of the State Security Service.
I would like to emphasize that over the past two decades, Tamaz Borashvili will be the first career representative of the state security system to assume the position of the head of the state security system, which I believe plays an important role in the institutional strengthening of the system.
I am confident that the Parliament of Georgia will express its support for Tamaz Borashvili. I wish Mr. Tamaz Borashvili success in the position of the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
