Revenue Service releases official clarification regarding tobacco control legislation

The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance would like to remind you that the legislation in force establishes relevant restrictions and prohibitions on the sale, placement, advertising and promotion of tobacco products, tobacco accessories and devices intended for tobacco consumption, as well as on the demonstration of smoking tobacco or other forms of tobacco consumption.

These requirements apply both to traditional tobacco products and to heated tobacco products (so-called "IQOS"), electronic cigarettes ("vapes"), and other devices intended for tobacco consumption.

The Revenue Service once again reminds interested parties that, under the legislation, the advertising of tobacco products and related products, as well as the demonstration of their consumption, is prohibited through print and electronic mass communication media, including through the use of the internet and social networks.

The Administrative Offences Code of Georgia provides for various types of administrative liability for violations of these requirements, including relevant financial sanctions. The Revenue Service calls on business entities, representatives of retail outlets, media and social networks, as well as other interested parties, to comply with the requirements established by the legislation in force in the field of tobacco control.

For additional information on the requirements established by the legislation in force in the field of tobacco control and the administrative liability prescribed for violations thereof, please see:
