The Prosecutor`s Office of Georgia has charged two individuals with joining a foreign terrorist organization and aiding terrorist activities.

As a result of the investigation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Center of the State Security Service, it was established that two citizens of Georgia joined the terrorist organization "Islamic State", swore an oath of allegiance to its leader and were ready to carry out any task in order to assist terrorist activities. As a result of the investigative actions conducted, along with other evidence, during a search of the residential building of one of the accused, ammunition and a hand grenade were seized, as well as items with the symbols of the terrorist organization.

The investigation continues under Article 328 of the Criminal Code (membership in a foreign terrorist organization and assistance in terrorist activities) and Article 236, Part 3 (illegal acquisition and storage of ammunition and explosive devices), which provides for up to 17 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Prosecutor`s Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law to impose imprisonment on the defendants as a preventive measure.
