Hungary is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the 1956 anti-Soviet uprising. The events in Budapest opened with a traditional procession and the lighting of the revolutionary flame. The torchlight procession was led by the Prime Minister of Hungary and members of the government. The protesters walked from the Budapest Technical University along the exact route from which the student protest began 70 years ago, which the next day turned into a general uprising against the Soviet regime. The participants held in their hands the main symbol of the revolution - the Hungarian flag with the middle cut out, from which the demonstrators cut out the Soviet coat of arms in 1956.
